I really like to composition in this piece, it makes me think we're looking at the scene from a third person's perspective - someone who was present but perhaps hidden so the other two weren't aware of their presence... haha, who knows :,D
Anyway, I'm guessing the bold red is a concisous choice here, but have you considered bouncing light? Like how the green of the moss on the rocks would affect the red cape etc. Since you're illustration style is leaning towards realism, I think that'd help push it further (if it's the way you want to go )
